In early March, 30 sophomore English students competed in a classroom writing competition by submitting formal argument essays. Each student wrote a 6 paragraph essay that walked through the stages of the formal argument, including objections, concessions, and rebuttals. Students wrote about topics that they were personally passionate about and gave persuasive speeches to their classmates at the conclusion of the unit.
